Abstract
This article is prepared for the discussion of Thailand coupe at College of Law, University of Illinois, under the auspice of Program in Asian Law, Politics and Society, on October 25, 2006.
The aim of this article is to illustrate that the claim of bloodless coup on September 19, 2006, is misleading and the excuses of the coup, such as commonplace corruption in democracy regime, are notoriously wicked. In fact, Coup d’tate, even though it is uniquely peaceful in Thailand,[1] is never necessary evil for Thailand. Merely the credulous and innocent people do believe such excuses. In contrast, the suspicious conducts of the elite elected by the citizens is actually necessary evil. Almost of all countries, which enshrine the democracy regime, subject to the same problems, including the corruption problem and the abuse of power initiating by the civilian government.
This roughly written article is composed of three parts: the basis of revolution and coup d’tate in Thailand, the bad excuse of the coup. The last one is conclusion, leading to the choice that Thailand must choose to do; going on Democracy or Dictator. However, don’t forget the statement: Power Corrupt, Absolute Power Corrupt Absolutely. No even single man will be eternally good without good system to check and balance the power.
