I had a chance to watch a movie about Hitler history last week. It seems to me that it is very similar to the present phenomenon in Thailand. Hitler who worked for Military incredibly created the sentiment to all citizens in Germany after losing in the WWI, which in turn it imposed the duty on Germany to compensate damage to other countries.
He vividly depicted the ineffectiveness of democratic system at that period by identifying that the Germany citizens had been robbed by people from others based on the treaty clause demanding Germany to pay damage which might took around 50 years to complete the contract.
As a result, he would be able to persuade the people to terminate the treaty to compensate the damage resulting from the WWI, and entitled him an independent and absolute power to control both legislative and executive branch. Exactly, he corrupted such unconditional power and caused severe damage to his own country and innocent people.
Many columnists had been killed; Jew genocide, around 6 millions, occurred because of his hatred to this race. The WWII caused 60 millions people died after he procured absolute power in Germany. All of above factors, he got such power from the ability to stir sentiment of society and incited the flattery of hope and fear including abhorrence of different race of human!
Like Thailand, most people’s conducts depend heavily on the emotional and sentimental state of mind, especially, deriving from the "numerously suspicious conduct" of Former His Excellency Thasin, which still have been proven in the court of justice. For this reason; this feeling readily exposed to the military to easily demise and cease the democratic system.
The media also falsely identified that more than 80% of Thais concurred with the coup! Ironically, it is impossible for numerous reasons! I have never trusted in the "well-dictatorship" status of military government, as well as the civilian democratic government.
However, I am strongly positive that the civilian government deriving from democratic system is much better than other kinds of administration in terms of freedom of speech and possibility to scrutiny its performance.
In the United States, the state government will be examined by the citizens and the relating legal authorities both from Federal agency and state one. Most criminal commissions will be brought to criminally charge into court after the governor, such as in Illinois, had retired or resigned from office.
Consequently, I believe that it will be the same in Thailand if we learn how to substantiate the legal authority task and criminal justice system to carry out their jobs in the future. If we think that the former leaders and subordinates of civilian government corrupted, I am certainly positive that it will be much easier to bring them into justice than those ones who have been appointed by the military coup.
I merely wonder why we, Thais as a whole, do not want to learn how to walk before we can run! I am also afraid that the history I have watched in the movie will appear in Thailand!
